Westfield Soccer Association

U7 and U8 Winter Training

For all players born in 2011 and 2012

U7 Winter Training

The U7 winter program is going in to its 3rd year and set up for those players born in 2012 looking to
further develop their soccer skills. Anyone interested in taking this class will be exposed to training with
a heavy focus on the ability to control and manipulate the ball. To play soccer successfully one needs to
be able to manipulate the ball, using the different surfaces of both feet. In fun and challenging activities, we
look to provide the players with a lot of touches to help them further develop their ability the master
the ball. A player who can control the ball will not only become more competent, but also more
confident in his or her own ability. The objective is to provide these young players with the opportunity
to make as many decisions possible, on the ball, and find a way to execute these decisions accordingly.

U8 Winter Training

A winter program specifically designed for the serious soccer player born in 2011 looking to further
develop their soccer skills. Anyone interested in this program can sign up for 1 or both 6 week sessions,
which both take place at the Westfield Armory this upcoming winter.

The curriculum of this winter program will build upon what the players have been exposed to in training
in the U8 academy or U8 rec during the Fall. During the U8 academy and U8 rec the focus has been
mostly on developing the basic dribbling technique. Dribbling is the foundation on which all other soccer
techniques are build. A player who is capable of controlling the ball will not only be more confident but
can also be taught how and when to pass and/or shoot. For that reason, it is important that players
learn to manipulate the ball using both feet and different surfaces, eventually under pressure of
opponents. Understanding that this takes time and lot of repetition, those players interested in
becoming more comfortable and competent on the ball will most certainly benefit from taking part in
this class.

Below all the information about these classes.

Given that these classes take place inside we only have a limited number of spots available. The trainers
running these classes might divide players up based on their ability, to ensure all receive training that
suits them.
